Local Council - Services
Collection
of Bulky Refuse: This service is provided once
weekly (every Tuesday at 7.00a.m.) Residents are kindly
requested to report items for collection by phoning the
Council on 21 373 939 / 21 370 199 / 800 73 7 39.
The Council offers this service free of charge to all residents.
Please do not throw bulky items in the skips or next to
the bring in sites.
Collection
of Household Waste: The service is provided daily
from Monday to Saturday and on all Public Holidays falling
on the said days. Collection starts at approximately 8.00a.m.
Residents are requested not to take out their garbage earlier
than 7.30a.m. and to keep all garbage bags for collection
next to their residence.
Cleaning
of Roads: All roads within the Locality are cleaned
manually between Monday and Saturday according to the schedule.
Grass cutting is provided on a periodical basis and as required.
Should you spot a street that needs sweeping do not hesitate
to give us a call. Help us keep Swieqi clean.
Dog
litter: It is illegal to leave dog litter on public
property. Persons leaving their pet litter on public property
will be fined as per relevant Legal Notice. The Council
will be enforcing this law immediately.
Collection
of dead animals: Please call our offices for the
collection of dead animals in public spaces (urban or non
urban area). Please indicate exact location.
Maintenance
of Parks, Gardens and Public spaces: Parks, Gardens
and other public spaces in the locality are maintained by
the Council. It is not permitted to plant trees/plants in
public spaces without the permit of the Council, otherwise
they will be removed immediately. Please help us keep our
locality in a good condition. If you have any information/details
about vandals/vandalism please report immediately to the
Local Council or police on 21332196
Payment
of Police & Local Warden’s Contraventions: Payments
are accepted at the Local Council’s Office from Monday
to Friday between 8.00a.m. and 12.00p.m. and Wednesday between
2.00p.m. and 4.00p.m.
Payment
of Rents on Government property: Payments are accepted
at the Local Council’s office from Monday to Friday
between 8.00a.m. and 12.00p.m.
Trading Licences Payment: Trading Licences
may be renewed at the Local Council’s Office. Renewal
notice is to be presented upon payment.
Services
for the Elderly:
KartAnzjan: The Local Council is responsible for
the management of the KartAnzjan Card within our locality.
Our elderly residents are kindly requested to route any
queries to the Local Council. Applications for the replacement
of mislaid KartAnzjan cards can be obtained from the Council.
Telecare Service: If you wish to apply for telecare
service please contact us by phone or personally during
office hours.
Street Lighting: When reporting a burnt-out
lamp please note to include the 3 digit reference number
placed on most lamps e.g. W013/24.
Maintenance of Traffic Signs and Road Markings:
The Council makes sure that traffic signs and road markings
are kept in good condition for the safety in our roads.
Unfortunately, a lot of signs need to be changed continuously
because of vandalism.

A
fee may be charged according to the Regulations.
The Council may deem necessary to commission a Local Warden
for the duration of works.

Trenching Works: All Trenching works require
a permit from the Local Council and other entities accordingly.
(TP6) Permit for Plant Maintenance and Street/Road Surface
Repair Works not exceeding the total surface area of 5.00sq.m.
and maximum of 1.5m in depth.
Applications can be obtained from the Council’s office.
A certificate from an insurance is required. Permit is then
issued from the Local Council according to Legal Notice
313 of 2002.
(TP1) Permits for:
- the excavation of long trenches with a size over 5sq.m.
in surface area, by one and a half metres in depth
- road scarifying and resurfacing
- new construction of a road
- reinforcement of abutting road
An
application for TP1 can be registered at the Local Council’s
office, at the Malta Transport Authority or any other entity.
After approval from various entities, the permit is then
issued by the MTA according to Chapter10, section 29 –
Code of Police Laws.
Complaints/Suggestions Handling: Residents
who wish to lodge a complaint/forward a suggestion to the
Local Council or to a Government Department are requested
to contact the Local Council. This process involves:

2. Verification
3. Reference to the concerned authorities
4. Feedback
Residents wishing to meet any Councillor are requested to
fix an appointment by calling at the Council.
Playing Fields: We invite you to visit
the recreational areas situated in Triq il-Hemel and Triq
is-Swieqi (both in Swieqi) and Triq il-Barmil (Victoria
Gardens, Ibrag)
Information: Information packs about the locality
as well as other material of general interest are available
free of charge from the Local Council’s Offices. The
pack is ideal for students.
Lapel
Badges: Lapel Badges bearing the locality’s
Coat of Arms may be purchased for Lm1.50 each from the Local
Council’s offices during office hours.
